Create a Comic Book with Scott Rosema Ages 12+ Students will work with professional cartoonist Scott Rosema to create a group comic book, from start to finish! Students will learn the process of developing a comic, including story development and illustration. Everyone will each contribute to the final collective book, which we will publish (fee includes final comic). Bring pencils and a sketch book. Artists and Their Art with Carolyn Bone Ages 7-14 Learn the different styles and techniques used by the masters, and let them inspire you to create your own masterpiece! Beginner Ukulele Lessons with Chester Winowiecki Ages 8-Adult You don’t have to know anything about music to have a great time with a ukulele! Students will learn the basics of holding, tuning, and caring for their ukulele, as well as a number of chords that can be used to play hundreds of songs, old and new. Canvas Art with Carolyn Bone Ages 10 - Adult Learn how to create one-of-a-kind piece of art on canvas, ready for framing and display! Wearable Art - T-shirt Design with Missy Morrow All Ages Students will take time to create their own visual masterpiece, and turn it into wearable art! Clay Sculpture with Andrew Goldstein Ages 8+ Get your hands messy and learn how to work with 3D art! Students will learn the basics of working with clay materials, using both tools and their hands to create pottery and sculpture. Finish with a short lesson on glazing and firing, and fantastic clay pieces you will proudly display! Class located at Terrestrial Forming Studio, 5385 Lamos in Whitehall. Spring Break Camps (April 5-8)
Spring Break Art Camp Ages 5+ Explore art and HAVE FUN in this creative setting where kids will draw, paint, sculpt, and create. Creative projects focusing on art of the world will allow students to explore other cultures without leaving town! Students will be surrounded by the Full Circle - A Sailing Journey exhibit which will provide inspiration in their artistic travels. Students will be grouped with kids of similar age. 10-11:30 a.m., $25/student including materials (siblings $20)
Performing Arts Workshop Students will get a chance to participate in many aspects of theatre performance, including drama, dance, lighting, set design, audition skills, and makeup and costuming. Puppet Theatre with Alice Gambel 3rd grade + Expand the theatre experience through puppetry and character development. Craft three styles of puppets, create voices and personalities to accompany the puppets, and prepare short puppet plays to be presented to friends and family. Nuveen Theatre Workshop with Alice Gambel and Friends Grades 3-12 The 2010 Nuveen Theatre Workshop performance is a Dragonfest. (A collage of one act plays, dance, and song about dragons, princesses, kings, queens, and knights) The show will be performed at the Howmet Playhouse on June 17, 18 & 19 and you must be able to attend ALL performances. Rehearsals will be kept to a minimum and scattered throughout April and May. Specific rehearsal times will be scheduled by age and show after auditions and casting. You must, however, be available during the day and/or evening from June 12th through the 19th. This workshop is open to 3rd through 12th grade students who live anywhere within reasonable driving distance to the White Lake area. You must be able to get yourself to rehearsals. Rehearsals will always take place in Montague or Whitehall. The show will be directed by retired theatre director/teacher Alice L. Gambel assisted by an intern and/or other adults.
